For patients in lifesaving treatment studies and their caregivers, it’s hard to take a break. Days are often long and unpredictable. Ana’s Impact continues to provide emotional and social support to families by providing a break – outings to a restaurant, a movie, even a trip to the mall. Patients tell us that even a few short hours away from the Clinical Center helps them to feel less stressed when their lives are anything but normal.
The special fund was started by Roger and Michele Longenderfer, Ana’s parents, and Chris Dougherty, Ana’s husband, in honor and memory of Ana in partnership with Friends at NIH after her death. Ana was treated for cancer at the NIH. She truly believed in clinical trials and wished more patients could experience NIH’s healing mission and she deeply valued the support of family and friends.
